What you will do in your working day
- The post will be for 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with workplace based in Harpenden. From September 2024, the individual is required to attend the engineering trust location in Bicester (Oxfordshire) for day release for 2 years, so ability to travel to this location is essential
- During Year 1, the apprentice will be involved in learning how system works, assisting in a range of tasks from reactive to planned maintenance of items for electrical, HVAC and controlled environments whilst supervised and mentored at all times by senior colleagues
- Year 2 will involve the individual carrying works on all systems, whilst being supervised and advised by an experiences skilled engineer
- Year 3/4 will see the individual independently completing works such as commissioning / testing, certification completion and fault finding on all systems, whilst being supervised by an experienced by skilled engineer
- During the apprenticeship, you may work with:
- Heating Ventilation Air conditioning / Controlled environments: install, maintenance and repair
- Understanding the regulations and learning health and safety requirements for carrying out works such as Lock of Tag Off (LOTO) - risk assessment and method statement (RAMS), COSHH, PPE etc.
- Electrical (Low Voltage ) - install ,maintenance and repair. Understanding the regulation. Learning health and safety requirements for carrying out works such as Lock of Tag Off (LOTO) - risk assessment and method statement (RAMS), Control of substances hazardous to health (COSHH), Personal Protective equipment (PPE ) etc.
- Building Management Systems - Operations and understanding the working of system
- Health and Safety following Rothamsted Research procedures and safety policies, reporting near misses and incidents, working safely at all times and safety training
- Other courses related to Building Services will be provided during the apprenticeship, depending on skill levels
