What you will do in your working day
- Working within the Heritage team to assist on everything from advising on how to manage the historic environment in large-scale infrastructure projects to assessing heritage impacts in smaller development schemes.
- Working with wider multidisciplinary teams to develop understanding of the challenges that different technical disciplines face and how to best work collaboratively on projects.
- Engage with a diverse range of projects, including defence, roads, railways, flood management, water resources and with clients in the public and private sector. Developing field of interest and shaping career will progression through this engagement.
- Accompanying colleagues on site visits and walkovers to identify and record, for example, archaeological remains, historic buildings, conservation areas and historic landscapes.
- Developing and attending community engagement activities, for Attending archaeological fieldwork sites with colleagues to assist in, for example, recording of progress, site meetings, and site photographs.
- Responsibility for assisting in the creation of baseline datasets, including collection, processing and reporting. Developing research and writing skills along with training in GIS software packages.
- Get involved with our Early Career Professionals activities to develop skills and build a network, through seminars, training courses and on the job learning. This will supplement time at college and allow practical application of knowledge.
- Support will be provided by a line manager, professional mentor, and network of apprentices within the company, as well as the support from college tutors, which will be linked through regular coordinated tripartite reviews between academic and company staff.
- Support with client and stakeholder engagement by attending online and face to face meetings and recording key actions and responsibilities.Building awareness of commercial setting through project and programme support.
The training you will be getting
You will attend Collegeone day a week to work towards your completing this apprenticeship qualification in: Historic environment advice assistant level 4.
You will have the full support of your wider team, as well as a line manager, mentor and buddy, and a dedicated learning & development team.
You will join our 2 year 'accelerate your future' internal training scheme as well as company provided training sessions.
What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship
Ideally you will then continue your employment with Mott Macdonald through full time employment or onto a higher level/degree apprenticeship.
