What you will do in your working day

A normal day would include:

  • Receiving material goods in and checking all orders
  • Cutting to size on power saw to tape measure length, deburing and preparing raw material for machining
  • Setting new cutting tools in holders and measuring offsets
  • Setting raw material in machine clamping methods such as vices or jigs
  • Using manual machines like centre lathe to turn finished components
  • Using measuring equipment such as micrometres, verniers and slip gauges to check and inspect dimensions to 0.01mm accuracy
  • Deburr and finish components using files, sanders, scrapers
  • Wash and degrease finished components ready for assembly
