What you will do in your working day

This Apprenticeship is the perfect starting point for an individual who is looking to get into the butchery industry. You will work with a highly reputable and knowledgeable butcher to develop a wide skillset to ensure you can kick start your career in this exciting industry.

The job will comprise of learning a full range of butchery skills and duties will include:

·        Preparing and cutting carcases

·        Preparing and cutting specific joints/cuts of meat

·        Making sausages/gammons/burgers/ready meals

·        Assisting with counter display/setup/clear down

·        Serving/greeting customers

·        Gathering/packing for deliveries/orders

·        Freezer/fridge stock control

We are looking for a keen individual with good communication skills, an excellent work ethic and a genuine interest in the butchery trade who is willing to listen and learn the art of good butchery and hopefully go on to be an established member of the team.

Saturday working is essential as this is often the busiest day of the week.

We are a non-smoking business and would therefore require a non-smoker.

This will be a great learning environment for an Apprentice looking to master the trade of butchery.

You will be required to attend monthly development workshops at Poultec Trainings Butchery Academy in Mattishall.

Things to consider

Due to the nature of the work you will be on your feet most of the day You will be handling knives, machinery and raw meat. This Apprenticeship will include weekend work. Own transport would be ideal, or living within walking distance of the premises.

About the employer

This is a thriving market town butchers shop currently run by the owner who works full time and has over 40 years experience in the butchery trade and an excellent reputation. Alongside him there is a butchery assistant who started as an apprentice and has quickly gained excellent skills and is continuing to improve and take on more responsibility within the business. The shop is busy and can be fast paced, particularly at busy times, such as public holidays and especially Christmas. We pride ourselves on the superb quality of the meat prepared and sod in the shop and our excellent customer service. We are family run and a friendly team with good working relationships.
