What you will do in your working day
The Finishing Department are responsible for trimming, stitching, folding & perfect binding of various printed products from Lithographic and digital departments in the production area.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Learn to set and operate various finishing equipment including guillotines, bindery machinery, saddle-stitch trimming machinery and folding machinery to deal with a range of finishing processes
- Carry out sufficient quality checks to ensure output is accurate and error free
- Liaising with various departments across the business, in particular Account Management and other Production departments
- Respond to any issues in a timely manner
- Perform required work on finishing printed material by hand and/or by machine in accordance with the company's Quality Control manual and procedures
- Regularly spot-check the quality and standards of your work
- Undertake and effect timely delivery of all campaign schedules
- Learn to uphold the Company's Quality Control and sign off procedures
- Communicate appropriately with supervisor and colleagues on work progress
- Follow maintenance routines and ensure cleanliness of all equipment
- To comply with all company procedures in relation to ISO accreditations and Health and Safety
The training you will be getting
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, the qualification obtained will be a Level 3 Print Technician Apprenticeship Standard (specialising in the post-press pathway). The apprentice will be given sufficient time to undertake their "off-the-job" requirement of the apprenticeship during their working hours. Throughout your time as an apprentice, you will be supported by both MBA Group Ltd and the BPIF Training to achieve the knowledge, skills and behaviours of the apprenticeship. You will be assigned a training coordinator who will work with you throughout your apprenticeship to ensure that you have the best training and support available. Training requirements will be discussed at the point of employment to suit your individual needs and business needs. Most training and studying will be a combination of regular site-based visits at the employer's premises and the occasional remote delivery. Candidates without the required level of maths and English will be required to complete Functional Skills alongside the apprenticeship.

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, a full-time role may be available within the company, subject to business need. An apprenticeship in print provides a solid foundation to enter a skilled career in the print industry, with opportunities to progress into skilled technician positions leading into production management.
