What you will do in your working day

This fantastic culinary career opportunity at The Elephant will include duties such as:

  • Daily prep work preparing gravy, sauces, garnishes, ready for a busy service
  • Cook, plate up and generally assist the Head Chef
  • Opportunity to develop own recipes for changing menu  
  • Dealing with deliveries, stock rotation and general good admin practices
  • Deal with suppliers and ensure correct ordering of pre-arranged lists with Head Chef
  • Ensuring particular station and general kitchen are kept clean and tidy, including at the end of each shift, ready for the next service
  • Adhering and taking responsibility for following health and safety procedures

The training you will be getting

  • The successful candidate will complete a Level 2 Commis Chef apprenticeship, delivered in partnership with Cheshire College – South & West 
  • If you do not already hold GCSEs at grade A-D / 8-3/2 in English and maths you will complete Functional Skills in the related subjects to attain Level 1 Functional Skills

About the employer

The Elephant is a traditional pub, close to the heart of Shavington, near Crewe, which was taken over by new and experienced management in July. New recruits will be joining the team at the start of an exciting, fresh chapter for The Elephant which will see a full refurbishment both inside and out, including a new, fully fitted kitchen and extension. The pub’s menu continues to be developed by the Head Chef and her team and is already attracting 150 covers during the pub’s busiest times. The team pride themselves on the good food, decent ales and warm welcome they provide and the new management is committed to the development and training of staff.
