    Monday - Friday, 08:00 - 16:30. Flexibility for early starts and late finishes. When qualified, will become part of the on-call rota for out of hours call-outs.

What will the apprentice be doing?

Some of your main responsibilities will be:

  • Working alongside other engineers to deliver scheduled works for our customers
  • Assisting other engineers with their day to day workload
  • Learning how to liaise with customers about work required, completed and next steps
  • Learning how to complete job cards and record completed works
  • Learning how to accurately quote for remedial works and build material lists
  • Liaising with other engineers and the operational teams
  • Undertaking a mixture of domestic and commercial plumbing and gas remedial works and installations
  • Learning to name equipment and getting a 'feel' for its use, e.g. how much force do you use to tighten a compression fitting
  • Understanding domestic and commercial water and heating systems layout
  • Learning how everyday plumbing fixtures work
  • Learning the different methods of joining pipes and different pipe materials
  • Leak finding and solving
  • Learning water regulations
  • 1st and 2nd fix on plumbing and heating systems

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • You will be working towards a Level 3 Plumbing and Domestic Heating Apprenticeship Standard
  • You will receive on and off the job training and support from an assessor and an apprenticeship advisor
  • You will be required to attend Cornwall College St Austell on a weekly basis as part of the apprenticeship training
  • It will be a requirement that the newly developed Level 3 Plumbing and Domestic Heating Qualification is achieved prior to taking the end-point Assessment

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

  • Progression to permanent commercial plumber with domestic gas qualification, moving onto commercial gas qualifications after required period. Full-time Commercial Gas Engineer

Things to consider

Due to working hours, must be 18 years old or over. Must be able to drive and make own way to work location/meet mentor engineer. Home based but work locations varied across Cornwall and into Devon so mobile working is a key part of the role. A company vehicle may be provided at some point during apprenticeship dependant on learning outcomes.
