What will the apprentice be doing?
Some of your main responsibilities will be:
- Working alongside other engineers to deliver scheduled works for our customers
- Assisting other engineers with their day to day workload
- Learning how to liaise with customers about work required, completed and next steps
- Learning how to complete job cards and record completed works
- Learning how to accurately quote for remedial works and build material lists
- Liaising with other engineers and the operational teams
- Undertaking a mixture of domestic and commercial plumbing and gas remedial works and installations
- Learning to name equipment and getting a 'feel' for its use, e.g. how much force do you use to tighten a compression fitting
- Understanding domestic and commercial water and heating systems layout
- Learning how everyday plumbing fixtures work
- Learning the different methods of joining pipes and different pipe materials
- Leak finding and solving
- Learning water regulations
- 1st and 2nd fix on plumbing and heating systems
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
- You will be working towards a Level 3 Plumbing and Domestic Heating Apprenticeship Standard
- You will receive on and off the job training and support from an assessor and an apprenticeship advisor
- You will be required to attend Cornwall College St Austell on a weekly basis as part of the apprenticeship training
- It will be a requirement that the newly developed Level 3 Plumbing and Domestic Heating Qualification is achieved prior to taking the end-point Assessment
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
- Progression to permanent commercial plumber with domestic gas qualification, moving onto commercial gas qualifications after required period. Full-time Commercial Gas Engineer
