What will the apprentice be doing?
In this apprenticeship, you'll dive into the world of window and door glazing/installation. You'll be working on-site, handling a diverse range of glass installations for windows, doors, and bi-fold doors, often in challenging weather conditions and at various heights. Your role will involve:
- Assisting with unloading glass deliveries, ensuring materials are checked and stored correctly.
- Utilising hand and power tools for precise measurements, cutting, drilling, and preparation of glass.
- Operating glass fabrication machines, conducting pre-use checks and necessary adjustments.
- Collaborating with the team to assemble glass products using techniques like crimping, sawing, and welding (training provided).
- Adding essential components, such as handles, as needed.
- Conducting quality control assessments on finished glass products, meticulously checking for any defects or damage.
- Completing necessary documentation, such as worksheets or company records.
- In addition to these tasks, you'll also assist the shop manager with vital duties like glass cutting and assembly, ensuring you gain a comprehensive understanding of the glazing/installation process.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Level 2 Fenestration Installer.
This will be a blended delivery, a mixture of Microsoft Teams and face to face. All training will take place on site and within your working hours.
Ixion Holdings will complete functional skills where necessary and will ensure Health & Safety, British Values and Equality & Diversity is embedded throughout the course.
English and maths qualifications form a mandatory part of all apprenticeships and must be completed before an apprentice can pass through gateway.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
This role can lead naturally into other fields such as architectural glazing, fenestration fabrication, curtain walling, ironmongery, locksmithing and more.
