What will the apprentice be doing?
During your apprenticeship, you will be required to undertake a vast range of administrative and secretarial duties. You must be confident dealing with the public and have excellent communications skills to deal with complex issues.
You will undertake a vast range of job roles including, but list not exhaustive:
- Answering telephones and dealing with patient queries
- Dealing with patients face to face
- Working on practice clinical systems
- Filing
- Stock checking/ordering stock
- Monitoring equipment such as vaccine refrigerator temperature checks
- Scanning correspondence and read coding appropriately
- Opening and distributing mail
- Dealing with appointments
- Organising clinics
- Prescription requests
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
On the job training will be provided to ensure the successful candidate is fully conversant with the role and working towards NVQ Business Administrator Level 3 with the qualification provider during working hours.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
The successful candidate will gain vast experience of working in general practice. They will gain skills in how to deal with complex patients, have a knowledge of safeguarding, and how to use a vast range of clinical systems within the NHS. Also, the successful candidate will also gain experience of working alongside a PCN.
