What you will do in your working day

  • Primarily the apprentice will be spending time with young children ranging from 3 months to 5 years
  • Supporting and caring for them, interacting with them and educating them according to our curriculum
  • The role will also involve some food preparation and helping to feed children, cleaning/tidying room as required, changing nappies and helping with toileting (after DBS check completed)
  • The apprentice will accompany colleague on outings with the children, and dependant on their ability will be given key children to track the development of, which will involve doing observations of the children and completing paperwork

The training you will be getting

  • This apprenticeship is work-based and therefore training will take place at the workplace
  • The successful candidate will have gained a Early Years Practitoner Level 2 Apprenticeship after successful completion
  • Functional Skills English and maths will also be completed if required

What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship

  • The applicant would be expected to remain in our employment for at least one year
  • After spending time as a floating member of staff, there may be options for a good nursery practitioner to be promoted to the role of room assistant, should a position become available

Things to consider

Any training and staff meetings (fairly infrequent) have to be conducted outside of working hours (weekends or after 7pm) and all staff are expected to attend.

About the employer

We are a family run business that has been established for thirty years. We are a kind and fair management team, but we have very high standards and expect all of our staff to be committed to delivering the best possible care and education to the children we look after. There are two nursery directors, one manager and one deputy manager. There are 12 members of staff caring for 31 children each day across four rooms. We have our own outside space and take the children out on walks in the local community, sometimes to the local high street. We are situated in a quiet residential area and there is free parking available. We are on a bus route and are approximately 15mins walk from Billericay train station.
