What will the apprentice be doing?
Role of Applicant
- As an Apprentice Underwriting Assistant, you will gain experience in the Underwriting process by supporting the business in policy submission, creation, renewal and booking process.
- You will provide administrative support to BOUM's Property Underwriting department.
- You will learn about Upstream Energy insurance.
Core Responsibilities
- Assisting the Underwriters with policy renewal and booking into underwriting system.
- General administrative support within underwriting process including file management.
- Creation of references and electronic folders for new and renewal submissions
- Awareness of all submissions and their nature (e.g. new; quote / new; written / renewal; quote / renewal; written)
- Monitoring/Allocation of premium messages
- Learn about basic underwriting principles and factors used to assess risk
- Understand basic regulatory and compliance regulations involved in the underwriting process.
- Learn about the main stakeholder relationships in the Insurance process for example Insureds, Brokers, Loss Adjusters and Lawyers.
- Complete all scanning and saving of documents to FileNet.
- Assist with monthly booking process.
- Process minor endorsement changes.
- Provide support with audits and compliance checks (i.e. collate folders/info for UA or UW to review).
- Assist UA with Agents Balance Report and accounts queries. Contact brokers where required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities specific to the Property Team
- Maintain File Log. To be overseen by UA or SUA.
- Upon policy completion, perform destruction checklist.

Insurance Practitioner Level 3
- Fully and part funded learning and development programme that includes the Cert CII
- Develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours of successful Insurance Practitioners
- Role-specific route ways tailor the apprenticeship to the job role:
• Claims Handler/Loss Adjuster
• Assistant Underwriter
• Junior Broker - Free CII membership for non-members through the CII Aspire Apprenticeship Programme
- Includes the CII study books and exam entries
- Resit costs for CII exams and End-Point-Assessment will be covered by the employer
- Fortnightly workshops for each CII exam
- All workshops recorded and available on-demand
- Interactive chat, forums and class notebooks for real time support and assistance from experienced and qualified insurance professionals
- Exam tips, tricks, and strategies
- Regular tutorials and assessments with your dedicated trainer
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Should the business have opportunities available, and candidate complete the apprenticeship, opportunity to develop and progress further in the Exposure & Aggregations division or the Property Underwriting division.
