What will the apprentice be doing?


  • To support with the preparation of meals to a high standard that meets the dietary requirements of the residents.
  • Create a warm and welcoming kitchen environment ensuring everyone feels at home.
  • To support with providing a high level dining experience for all residents, enhancing their experience wherever possible.
  • To support with the planning of menus with the Registered Manager and residents ensuring that meal choices reflect the preferences and dietary requirements of service users in accordance with their individual care plans
  • To effectively manage deliveries, stock control and stock rotation ensuring that stock ordered is consistent with planned menus and stored appropriately.
  • To ensure infection control and food hygiene protocols are well maintained, following the guidance from the food standards agency

Things to consider

The successful candidate will work across two locations both within the Southport area which are only five minutes apart if travelling by car. The two businesses are Blair House, Roe Lane, Southport as well as Burgess Manor Care Home, Fleetwood Road, Southport. We have chosen to deliver this qualification across two sites to ensure you receive a wide range of experience within the catering sector. The two catering teams work differently meaning you will have many people to learn from and develop your own skills. Both of our care homes provide support to residents with mental health conditions and we have been 40-50 people living with us. Both sites have approximately 50 staff, all of which have excellent working and personal relationships. The catering departments are extremely fast paced to ensure they are able to meet the dietary requirements of all our residents. You will report in to the Catering Manager who is also a qualified Chef.
