To work as part of the College’s IT Support Team to provide first and second line hardware and software support to all users of IT across the College’s growing number of sites. As part of your position you will be installing and configuring IT equipment including computers, laptops, mobile phones, desktop phones, printers, network devices (including switches) and other peripherals.

What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Recognising when an issue requires escalation to the Senior Technicians, Network Manager, or external agencies
  • Liaising with staff to enable the effective delivery of the curriculum, including informal one on one and small group training on the use of IT equipment
  • Provide support to visiting speakers and external events held within college
  • Providing technical support to staff and students with hardware and software problems
  • Routine maintenance of IT equipment including the replacement of consumable items
  • Installing and updating software as necessary
  • To ensure that projectors and interactive displays are available to staff and provide support for their effective use
  • To ensure that the safety of the equipment conforms with the Health and Safety Act and the Electricity at Work regulations
  • Assisting the Network manager and senior technicians with keeping logs of equipment faults, equipment serial numbers, movement of IT equipment and software
  • Ensuring security and protection of college systems to prevent misuse and malware

  • IT Solutions Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard
  • You will be expected to attend Halesowen College one day per week, to work towards your qualification
  • You will be allocated with an assessor who will visit you within the workplace every 8 weeks

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

  • On succesful completion, you will receive an Level 3 qualification in IT solutions

Things to consider

Candidates must have: A very keen interest in IT. Have knowledge of a wide range of Microsoft and Apple based software solutions, including Office and Teams. Experience of working with MacOS and Microsoft Windows operating systems in a networked environment Have some knowledge and experience of repair and maintenance of computing hardware Experience of working in an education establishment Knowledge of basic networking concepts, including IP, DNS and DHCP.
