What will the apprentice be doing?
- Develop experience, skills and knowledge to assist in carrying out a range of duties connected with the planning, design, inspection, repair, maintenance, management and new construction of the highway.
- Participate in delivering services, specific projects and annual work programmes
- Assist in planning and organising daily work, reading drawings, keeping records, following administration procedures.
- Support the preparation of designs, reports and specifications for highway schemes.
- Develop the skills to use levelling equipment, theodolite and measuring devices.
- Develop the skills to enable use of computer based systems – e.g. AutoCAD, Key Accidents, GIS based applications.
- Assist in preparing for appeals, including the assembly of relevant information and attending Public Inquiries as an observer.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
- You will attend a local training provider, usually on day release, to gain a Level 3 qualification for a Civil Engineering Technician.
- You will gain exposure to a large range of Civil Engineering tasks
- Gain a health & safety qualification
- Attend enrichment activities to enhance your knowledge eg interview techniques, health & wellbeing, finance, disability awareness
- Have the chance to attend marketing events and also take part in activities during National Apprenticeship Week
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
- Gain a Level 3 Apprenticeship standard in Civil Engineering
- 2 years work experience in the public sector
- Personal support to seek employment 4 months from the apprenticeship ending
