What will the apprentice be doing?

Apprentice Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Ensuring that the animals have ample fresh food as required, as well as fresh water at all times
  • Cleaning routines; including removing animal waste, spilled food, hair, and other debris from the kennels
  • Disposing of rubbish in a timely manner
  • Walking dogs
  • Playing with and administering care to dogs and cats
  • Calming animals which are in distress
  • Reporting significant changes or concerns to the supervisor on duty
  • Helping animals if an emergency occurs

Apprentice Requirements:

  • An interest in animals, and dogs and cats in particular
  • Desire to follow a career working with animals
  • Previous experience caring for animals would be advantageous
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • A passion for animal welfare
  • Able to arrange daily transport to and from Stour Row, near Shaftesbury, as required

  • Functional Skills in English and maths if required
