What will the apprentice be doing?

  • To support the finance reporting team in the raising of regular and ad hoc invoices for services provided by the Foundation, as allocated by the Finance Business Partner. This will require close working with other members of the team to ensure the invoices raised match the agreed contract price
  • To carry out regular review of the Foundation’s accounts receivable ledger and carry out credit control procedures as necessary and in line with the Foundations policy to ensure that debts do not stay outstanding for long periods of time, escalating particular difficult accounts or issues to the Finance Business Partner as they arise
  • Supporting in the preparation of costing for service user packages and the administration of contract management
  • Ensure that all cash amounts received are allocated promptly and accurately
  • Respond to customer (primarily local and health authorities although this may also be private clients) queries with regard to their invoices and contracts ensuring that all queries received into the team are resolved on a timely basis, referring or escalating issues as appropriate
  • Supporting with monthly reconciliation of customer control accounts
  • To provide cover for other areas of transaction processing where required
  • To identify and highlight key risks and contribute to the development of controls and actions to mitigate against the risks
  • To ensure that key finance policies are understood and complied with by colleagues
  • To undertake any other duties as requested by the Head of Finance commensurate with your level of post

Professional duties

• Participate in the review of the Foundation’s Finance Policies, Procedures and Processes;

• Participate in arrangements for further training and professional development

• Keep up to date with changes or developments within your profession

• Fully participate in the induction and training programme provided by the Percy Hedley Foundation

• Contribute to the professional development of other staff, including the induction of new staff

Apprentices will be required to take one of the professional qualifications listed below, as chosen by the employer to be most relevant to the job role:

  • AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting
  • ACCA Certificate in financial and management accounting (level 2)
  • IAB Level 2 certificate in bookkeeping
  • ICB Level 2 certificate in bookkeeping
