What will the apprentice be doing?

You may not have the experience yet, but you want to earn-as-you-learn, whilst gaining a qualification in a professional working environment, so why not give your career a kick start and join our BAM Apprenticeship Programme?

As a Business Admin apprentice you will join our busy project office on Sheephouse Wood Bat Protection Structure near Milton Keynes. This project is part of HS2 and the building of a Green Corridor which will run alongside the railway, creating a network of bigger, better-connected, climate resilient habitats.

The Sheephouse Wood Bat Protection Structure will run for around 1km alongside Sheephouse Wood in Buckinghamshire. The 56 hectare woodland is home to several different bat species, including the most northerly known colony of the rare Bechstein’s bat. All bats are legally protected in the UK and the structure will allow bats to cross the line without being harmed by passing trains.

The design is based around a series of arches. Although not technically classed as a tunnel, this structure has been carefully chosen as being the most effective solution to match our design considerations. The design is durable and requires little maintenance, reducing overall costs and materials.

The structure will be around 1km in length and up to 10m high, and will be absorbed into the local landscape and embed itself into the backdrop of the woodland. It will provide adequate shielding for bat flight paths from passing trains and provides connectivity points for wildlife with a green bridge and underpass.

At peak this site office will have up 150 people on site so keeping the office running smoothly is crucial.

Duties include;

  • General business admin duties – enquiries/emails/phone calls
  • Book in visitor’s
  • Greet visitors to site and sign them in
  • Book and prep meeting rooms
  • Arrange hot desks
  • Order office consumables
  • Generally keep the office running smoothly
