What will the apprentice be doing?
Typical tasks will include, but are not limited to:
- General farm work and maintenance
- Stock care, feeding, water, health checks, foot bathing and trimming
- Lambing
- Weighing lambs
- Shearing
- Some tractor work
- Data recording
- Occasional help in the market garden as required
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
You will be working towards a Level 2 General Farm Worker apprenticeship standard.
You will receive on and off the job training and support from an assessor and an apprenticeship advisor.
You will be required to attend Duchy College Stoke Climsland or Rosewarne on a weekly basis as part of the apprenticeship training.
Other mandatory qualifications:
- Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work, which is a minimum of 1-day course (Ofqual regulated)
- Level 2 City & Guilds Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides Guidance or Lantra Safe use of Pesticides’
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
There is the potential to remain employed on Carwarthen Farm after successful completion of the apprenticeship.
For the right applicant, there is the potential to take on a role as a full-time shepherd / farm worker.
