What will the apprentice be doing?

Duties of this role, including but not limited to:

  • Planning activities - supporting or leading educational games
  • Playing with the children - conducting activities such as crafts, music and cooking
  • Caring for the well being and safety of the children
  • Preparing the learning environment with resources and displays
  • Supporting the team
  • Preparing snacks
  • Keeping the setting tidy and safe for the children and staff
  • Observing and assessing children to help their learning

Having a Level 2 Childcare Qualification is desirable or 6 months experience working within a childcare setting.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?


  • L3 Apprenticeships Standard in Early Years Educator
  • L3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce
  • L2 Functional Skills English and Maths (if required)
  • L3 Award in Paediatric First Aid

End-Point Assessment (EPA)

  • A knowledge test - Multiple Choice test
  • A professional discussion underpinned by the portfolio

Delivery Method

  • A mixture of blended learning in the work place and taught delivery every other Friday at Loughborough College.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Should the apprentice complete the apprenticeship and meet the requirements, if there is a position avalible they could be employed by Promise Childcare long term.

About the employer

Our small and warm environment means that children settle quickly and playgroup becomes a good place to be. Promise Childcare is a small family business, which has been in operation first as a playgroup from 1996 to 2004 and as a daycare facility from 2004. We are quite versatile and offer a wraparound childcare service to suit requirements.
