We have an exciting opportunity available for a Pharmaceutical Operator on our pilot plant. You will gain practical experience working on reactor vessels while studying for a foundation degree in Applied Chemical Science. For this role, you will work as part of a shift team on our pilot plant. This varied role involves many different duties.

Working week
Shift pattern composed of blocks of 4 or 5 shifts (2 days/2 nights or 2 days/3 nights or 3 days/2 nights) followed by 4 or 5 days off. Shifts are 12 hours long (7am to 7pm or 7pm to 7am). 42 hours per week on average however this will vary.

What will the apprentice be doing?
For this role, you will work as part of a shift team on our pilot plant. This varied role involves many different duties, including:
1. Operating the pilot plant reactors and ancillary equipment following current procedures, obtaining advice from superiors if necessary
2. Perform routine maintenance and re-configure reaction vessels and ancillary equipment
3. Prepare and analyse samples using a variety of analytical techniques (including HPLC, NMR, KF, LOD)
4. Ensure that plant safety is maintained and safety regulations are adhered to
5. Manage your own workload such that the production schedule is maintained and deadlines are met
6. Maintain high standards of quality, ensuring that manufacturing and documentation are compliant with cGMP and operating procedures are followed
7. Identify and suggest areas where improvements can be made and participate in project schemes to support continuous improvement
8. Identify your own training requirements, participate fully and diligently in all training schemes and maintain your training record to the required standard
9. Ensure production areas are clean, tidy and well-maintained
10. Complete and review documentation promptly and accurately
11. Perform and record environmental monitoring as required
12. Maintain full familiarity with core plant services. Identify and report problems to the appropriate people in a timely manner
13. Communicate effectively within the team
14. Contribute to shift handovers

- FdSc in Applied Chemistry
- One day per week remote study
- Two summer schools which are one week long on campus learning
