What will the apprentice be doing?

As the finance team supports all areas of the organisation you will get a wide variety of experience across the work the team does. As you progress you will be trained in more advanced tasks and take on more responsibility for your own work.

Initially starting with an introduction to the ledgers and recording of transactions you will be working using the accounting software where you will be responsible for:

·        Processing invoices and payments through our purchase to pay system.

·        Producing supplier payment runs.

·        Supporting the Finance team by helping colleagues with invoices and payment queries.

·        Assisting with queries from suppliers, customers, colleagues, managers and external bodies and process, record and answer these efficiently.

·        Supporting the administration of petty cash systems and cash books.

·        Assisting with the production of payroll information such as expenses.

·        Learning to prepare financial information for management.

You will support the delivery of the operational plans for your area of the Group by completing your day-to-day activities, acting proactively to solve problems, and working with others to find customer-focussed solutions.

You will also gain experience of other key tasks such as monthly preparation of management and year-end accounts, summarising information and providing it to budget holders.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Formal training is delivered at HWGTA, located in Hereford (HR4 9SX)

You will receive training one day per week which is a combination of face-to-face and remote, as per your assigned training plan.

Additional training for functional skills in English and Maths will be undertaken if needed.

You will receive monthly visits from your assigned Learning and Development Specialist, who will set you work, monitor your development and wellbeing, and discuss training sessions. They will also prepare you for your End Point Assessment to gain your AAT Level 2 Foundation Certificate qualification (we will also consider AAT Level Advanced Diploma in Accounting).

There is also a five-day team building residential trip that is held in the spring of each year offered to all apprentices on programme.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

There will be opportunities to progress within the finance team for example to Finance Assistant, Assistant Accountant. Opportunities to progress through all levels of AAT and potentially progress to CIMA.
