What will the apprentice be doing?

We're looking for someone who has a genuine passion for cooking using fresh ingredients, wants to learn how to cook and present quality plates to a high standard, can work well within a team in a calm but fast paced environment, always maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene and to assist the lead chef during busy periods.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Apprentice Commis Chef to gain an all-round on the job education into becoming a chef, reporting to the head and sous chef.
  • The role is an Apprenticeship with the hope that a full-time position will be taken a successfully completing the classroom objectives.
  • You will be responsible for assisting with all aspects of food prep whilst keeping your kitchen section in a clean and organised fashion.
  • Being part of a small team, everyone does everything. This includes washing up and clearing down, peeling & cutting potatoes and assist with starters and desserts - your enthusiasm and integration within the team will be limited only by your own expectation levels

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  •  There will be on the job training, learning development and mentoring support with the senior chefs within.
  • The position is for 5 days a week including a day release attendance at the college.
  • The apprentice would be assigned an assessor through the College, who would typically come out to visit in the workplace to assess workplace competence.
  • The knowledge side would be provided via an online portal VLE (Virtual Learning Environment), and assignments/ evidence of work/ portfolio would be checked via an online Smart Assessor.
  • If required Functional Skills alongside the Apprenticeship.

About the employer

We are a village pub that provides high end traditional pub faye. Situated on the main thoroughfare between Stortford and Saffron Walden, we attract a mix of local custom but could also be described as a destination establishment. Inside we have space enough for covers, with a further 50 covers available outside in the summer months.
