What will the apprentice be doing?

As a Technician Apprentice with Teal & Mackrill, you will have the opportunity to play a vital part within the teams manufacturing department. It’s a small department, so you will have an opportunity to experience every area of development, including Research and Development, but also Quality Control and small works. 
You’ll have the opportunity to be involved in the process from start right through to the launch of finished products, whilst ensuring all products meet the necessary regulatory requirements. 
 
You’ll be working as part of a close-knit team, supported, and guided by a team of experts, each with diverse backgrounds and experiences you can learn from. It’s an amazing opportunity to get stuck in and no day will be the same!
 
Being an apprentice is hands-on, so you’ll get the chance to learn things you might otherwise not have experienced in a university environment, and you’ll develop your career within the paint and coating manufacturing sector. 
 
Our goal is to work with you, so that you can be a master of all areas within the department!  
 
What you’ll be doing: 

  • Quality control support including product testing
  • Assisting in small works production which will include processing of 5-50 litre batches of paint
  • Assisting with new product development including the investigation of new processes and raw materials
  • Assisting with customer complaint investigation including root cause analysis of coating failures
  • Liaising with and supporting internal and external sales teams
  • Working within both Technical Service and Technical Development departments to understand customer needs and develop new formulations

  • Over 48 months, you will develop your knowledge and skills in your chosen field to become a leader pushing development, knowledge generation and innovation
  • You will be provided with 6 hours per week by your employer to conduct learning and training during working hours. This can include theory training (for example, virtual lessons & online learning), alongside practical training (for example shadowing, mentoring, & time spent writing assignments
  • You’ll be trained by a team of expert tutors from Tiro as well as an experienced workplace mentor at Teal & Mackrill who, together, will make sure you develop the knowledge, skills, and work habits you’ll need to succeed in your career

Things to consider

There are some minimum requirements you’ll need to meet to do an apprenticeship, these are rules set by the UK Government. You’ll need to be over 18, not in full time education (at time of enrolment), have lived in the UK for 3 years and have the right to work in the UK. Alongside this you will need to have a minimum of Level 3 qualifications (A-levels, BTECs, or equivalent) AND relevant work experience.
