What will the apprentice be doing?
This can include, but is not limited to:
- Mechanical repairs and modifications, including plant and hand tools
- Electrical installations/testing/modifications and repairs
- Working with motors, fans, industrial burners and a modern powder coating plant
- Working with pneumatic, hydraulic and water-based systems
- Computer Aided Design and development of projects
- Health & safety improvements
- Maintaining a clean and safe working environment
- General factory maintenance
- Maintaining computer based work systems, including the TPM log and maintenance stocks
- Mig welding repairs/projects
- Liaising with external contractors for plant specific maintenance
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
- The learner will be studying the Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard qualification
- Day release to West Suffolk College
- Functional skills will be studied if equivalent qualifications are not held
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
- Throughout the apprenticeship there will be opportunities for additional short courses relating to the role
- On satisfactory completion of training, depending on performance, attainment and attitude, an offer of employment will be made. There may also be future opportunities for further education, such as a HNC or a degree apprenticeship
