What will the apprentice be doing?

As an apprentice you will be a key member of the nursery team, your duties activities may include:

  • Planning and delivering fun and educational activities with the children
  • Play alongside and with children to support their play
  • Contribute to children’s records through observation
  • Assist with the supervision of children at rest times and at mealtimes
  • Contribute in creating a safe, happy environment for the children
  • Ensure the play area is clean and tidy at all times
  • Working alongside/with outside agencies in supporting the children

About the employer

Whittington Preschool and Day Nursery is an independent childcare setting based at Whittington Barracks, just on the edge of both Lichfield and Tamworth. Based in a quiet and secure area, they have lots of space both indoors and out, having their own private woodland area along with two bespoke gardens.   The 2, 3 and 4 year olds have weekly sessions with our experienced and qualified Forest School leader, providing children with lots of opportunities to explore risky play in the safe and secure Forest School area. The baby room can accommodate up to 9 babies (6 months - 16 months) at any one time with a ratio of 1 member of staff to every 3 babies. Babies are provided with a combination of open ended and interest based resources in a room set out in such a way that the babies are encouraged to make independent decisions and lead their own play from day one. Tweenie room can accommodate up to 9 children (16 months - 24 months) at any one time with a ratio of 1 member of staff to every 3 children. Much like the baby room, the children in the Tweenie room are provided with a combination of open ended and interest based resources in a room set out in such a way that they are encouraged to make independent decisions and lead their own play from an early age. Toddler room can accommodate up to 15 children (2 - 3 years) with a ratio of 1 member of staff to every 4 children. The children in the toddler room are provided with a wide variety of open ended and interest based resources to match their developing skills. They have regular access to their own secure outdoor area which is directly attached to the toddler room as well as the two nursery gardens and their own secure forest school area. Preschool room can accommodate up to 20 children (3 - 4 years) with a ratio of 1 member of staff to every 8 children. The children in the Preschool room are provided with a wide variety of open ended and interest based resources to match their developing skills. The setting also focus on promoting independence and encouraging children to develop early life skills before they leave to move on to primary school.
