What will the apprentice be doing?

Duties include:

  • Workshop cleanliness and organisation
  • Tool setting
  • Machine maintenance
  • Machine loading
  • De-burring of components
  • Programming of components
  • Inspection of components
  • Updating of system to achieve current status of workload
  • Building of components into assemblies
  • Use of hand tools
  • Interpretation of engineering drawings

Qualifications included:

  • Engineering Fitter Apprenticeship Standard. Company Training Plan & Assessment
  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering - Development Knowledge (1 day per week for 2 years at college)
    Development Competence Qualification (workplace)
  • Level 2 Functional Skills - maths (If required)
  • Level 2 Functional Skills - English (If required)
  • End Point Assessment at the end of the apprenticeship

Things to consider

This is a physically active role, and candidates should be prepared to work in a clean workshop environment, but the nature of the role means that there will be significant periods of time spent 'on their feet', working at the machine, as well as some lifting.

About the employer

Evolve designs and manufactures systems and components within a wide variety of industries. Design is done using Solid-works software, and then components are made using the following in-house capabilities; CNC milling (3 axis and 5 axis simultaneous), CNC turning, CMM measuring software, and additive manufacturing.
