What will the apprentice be doing?
The role will include learning tasks such as the replacement of tyres and exhausts, together with general servicing and maintenance tasks including assisting with MOT testing and vehicle preparation.
You will be supervised at all times by a fully qualified member of staff who will introduce you to the specialist tools and equipment involved in this role, ranging from basic hand tools to power tools and measuring equipment including tyre changing machines.
Learning and Development:
- Work alongside a fully qualified member of staff who will provide supervision and guidance
- Acquire knowledge and skills in tyre and exhaust replacements, general servicing, and maintenance tasks
- Assist with MOT testing and vehicle preparation, gaining valuable experience in ensuring vehicles meet safety and regulatory standards
- Familiarise yourself with a range of specialist tools and equipment, from basic hand tools to power tools and measuring equipment, including tire changing machines
Duties and Tasks:
- Perform brake changes, ensuring the safe and efficient functioning of the braking system
- Conduct oil and filter changes to maintain optimal engine performance
- Assist with clutch repairs, ensuring smooth gear changes and vehicle operation
- Engage in full engine diagnostics to identify and address performance issues
- Learn cylinder head replacement techniques for effective engine repair
- Perform suspension work and tackle numerous other automotive tasks, expanding your skillset and expertise
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
The Apprenticeship in Autocare Technician consists of:
- Level 2 Standard Autocare Technician
- Functional Skills in maths and English (if required).
As part of the apprenticeship programme, attendance is required at our Skills Group training centre for one day per week. All other aspects of the qualification will be delivered on-site by the employer.
You will have regular visits every six to twelve weeks from your designated Skills Group assessor, who will monitor your progress during your apprenticeship training.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
- On completion of your Level 2 apprenticeship with the company, an opportunity to progress onto a Level 3 qualification may be available for the right candidate
