What will the apprentice be doing?

An average day:

  • Assessing produce for quality prior to picking and packing orders
  • Picking and packing customer orders via a hand held terminal or paper report and loading on to the vans for the drivers
  • Stocktaking after orders have been picked to ensure we have enough product in stock ready for the next day
  • Checking off deliveries and putting them away following strict stock rotation rules. Cleaning, manual handling and completing some daily reports once trained

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • Level 2 Supply Chain Warehouse Operative
  • Level 1 English and Maths Functional Skills Certificate, if equivalent not already held
  • Food hygiene 1 and 2
  • Allergen training – FSA recognised certificate
  • HACCP and COSHH certified training
  • Forklift training

Most of the training will be on site at the Fruit Basket. The offsite/classroom training will be completed in the office away from the warehouse during the length of the course. Some supplier visits and driver days out will also be included in the apprenticeship to further extend learning.

Things to consider

The fresh produce environment is fun and fast paced, however, it is cold as we work in refrigerated units and it is heavy so no need for a gym membership!
