What will the apprentice be doing?

Essential Cuisine have the opportunity to offer a work placement for an Engineering apprentice, who is working towards becoming a qualified Maintenance or Operations Engineering Technician. 

You will be somebody who is a driven individual who enjoys a challenge and is determined to become a great engineer. Having the right attitude is key to fitting in here. You will work alongside experienced engineers who will mentor and encourage you in your development. You will report directly to the Engineering manager.

A typical day will involve:

  • Patrolling the factory floor monitoring the production machines and liaising with operators to discuss any issues
  • Responding to machine faults
  • Carrying out preventative maintenance tasks
  • Targeted small project work (waste reduction/improvements)
  • Assessing trainee operators for sign off
  • Assisting in project related work
  • Signing in and escorting contractors on-site
  • Workshop organisation & cleaning
  • Learning about the production machinery
  • Assisting with equipment installs

The above list does not cover everything but gives an idea of routine tasks.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

On the job training plus the candidate will follow a Level 3 Apprenticeship programme and study towards a full Standard as a Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician. This training will be structured and delivered by Cheshire College - South & West. If the candidate does not hold GCSE grades A*-C (9-4) or equivalent, they will be required to complete a Level 2 Functional Skill in the relevant subject.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Full-time employment opportunity, although not guaranteed, is a possibility.
