What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Machine Setup: Assisting in the setup of CNC machines, which involves loading materials, securing workpieces, and installing cutting tools according to specifications
  • Programming: Learning and assisting with CNC programming, which involves inputting the appropriate instructions into the machine to execute the desired machining operations
  • Operating CNC Machines: Running CNC machines and monitoring their operation to ensure they produce parts within specified tolerances and quality standards
  • Troubleshooting: Identifying and addressing issues with CNC machines, such as tool wear, program errors, or machine malfunctions, and working to resolve them with guidance from experienced machinists
  • Collaborating with the team to identify and troubleshoot
    technical issues
  • Maintaining accurate records of work performed
  • Adhering to health and safety guidelines

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • Training will be completed 1 day per week at Doncaster College The hub site
  • The other 4 days a week will be hands-on learning at CWE Limited site at Ealand
  • You will undertake the Level 3 Machining Technician Apprenticeship  Standard
  • You will undertake Functional Skills for English and/or maths if needed
  • You will undertake both on and off-the-job training by a team of industry-qualified professionals to give you the best skills, knowledge and experience that will help you become a CNC Machinist of the future

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

On successful completion of the apprenticeship, the apprentice will become a skilled tradesperson and be offered a full-time role as part of the CWE team.

CWE Limited is a rapidly growing company which offers multiple routes for career progression post apprenticeship depending on the path the candidate favours:

  • Quality – Inspector or quality technician
  • Operations – team leader or continuous improvement specialist
  • Commercial – Account manager or project manager

Things to consider

You must be able to travel to and from work and college. CWE limited has a rail station 50m from the site with connections to Doncaster / Scunthorpe and the surrounding area. Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that's part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).
