What will the apprentice be doing?

You will use tried and tested tools and techniques to participate in improvement-based projects with a range of stake holders with operations.  Working to the company's objectives related to improving efficiency whilst reducing cost through identification and elimination of the lean 8 wastes.

Day to day duties could involve:

  • Engaging team members in the identification of improvement opportunities and relevant countermeasures and controls
  • Machine Parameter Audit
  • 5s Audits
  • Visual Management Board updates
  • Initiating and facilitating improvement activities through to confirmed resolution
  • Providing local expertise in business improvement methods and basic tools to team
  • Weekly, monthly and quarterly scrap data analysis
  • Weekly, monthly and quarterly OEE data analysis
  • Monitoring of KPIs to ensure all machines, equipment and departments are operating to optimise performance and maximise yield
  • Working in and with underperforming areas and processes, analyse root cause analysis leading to the planning, implementing and assisting in delivery suitable solutions
  • Involvement in trouble shooting and problem solving of process issues using techniques and tools such as VSM, DMAIC, A3 and PDCA
  • Implementation of CI best practices including TPM, 5S and SMED
  • Actively promote the culture of CI throughout the business
  • Participate as a key project team member, performance improvements and cost reduction initiatives
  • Assist in planning and execution of projects to ensure project timelines, quality and cost targets are met.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

This is a level 3 Improvement Technician apprenticeship qualification, delivered over a period of 15 months.  The apprentice will attend 12 monthly sessions at In-Comm Training Services in Telford, TF3 3AJ, and the remainder of the apprenticeship will be spent on the job alongside monthly assessment visits.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

There will be a full-time opportunity once the apprenticeship has been completed.  The salary will be reviewed after 12 months and there will be further opportunity to gain more qualifications and develop and progress on the Level 3 Improvement Practitioner Apprenticeship.
