What will the apprentice be doing?

You will provide IT support across the whole academy as required, supporting both staff and students. Completing tasks, working with the help desk, closing issues and managing stakeholders to high standards. Successful candidates must be able to demonstrate good attention to detail and have a flexible approach to their work.

You will provide face to face support whilst being supported and trained by our IT Technician and an external IT support company who provide higher level IT support. You will be working as part of the supportive and friendly team and your main responsibilities will include duties such as:

  • 1st line support duties
  • IT support duties for colleagues and students
  • Supporting the IT technician carrying out technical support and projects
  • Liaising with external support technicians
  • Ensuring relevant IT records are kept up to date at all times
  • Work to ensure technical issues are resolved in a timely manner
  • Supporting with audio visual requests
  • Assisting with day to day office tasks

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

An apprenticeship allows you to earn a wage, gain valuable work experience and industry specific competence.

You will be expected to work towards the Information Communications Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard, with support from your employer and the Chesterfield College Group.

As part of your apprenticeship, and dependent on your prior attainment, you may be required to complete maths and English Functional Skills which is an integral part of your apprenticeship.

Upon successful completion you will be awarded additional certificates of recognition for these qualifications.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Full time role with the school.

About the employer

The David Nieper Academy is a newly formed academy in Alfreton, Derbyshire. A brand-new school building opened in early 2017. A key aspect of our vision is our focus on applied learning within all subject areas and across all year groups. We are currently a small school of 680 and are looking to rapidly build to our capacity of 850. This year we have seen an increase in student numbers within each year group and are oversubscribed in Year 7. We are looking to build on this year on year. This is an immensely exciting time to be joining the academy and being a key component in the development of the new academy.
