What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Daily opening of the kitchen and taking delivery of any stock, checking this off against the order
  • Working with the Kitchen Team Leader to prepare and serve food
  • Setting up and clearing away of the dining room
  • Cleaning and closing the kitchen down
  • Complying with School Food Standards and Health and Safety requirements
  • Over time you will be given the opportunity to: Suggest new, costed and compliant, menu choices
  • Order stock
  • Complete daily and weekly H&S records

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Level 2 Production Chef Apprenticeship Standard, which includes:

  • Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)
  • End-Point Assessment (EPA)
  • Relevant training will be provided through Lancaster and Morecambe College

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

After successful completion, going on to work in a school/production chef environment with the practical skills, and hands on learning that an apprenticeship affords you.

About the employer

Burton Morewood CE Primary Academy & Nursery is located in the beautiful village of Burton-in-Kendal. We currently have over 170 children (age range 2-11) and cook approximately 100 meals per day. We are situated just 5 minutes from the M6 (junctions 35 or 36) and the village is serviced by an hourly bus (Stagecoach 555), which runs both directions between Kendal and Lancaster.
