What will the apprentice be doing?
The George & Dragon, with its excellent reputation for food and drink and a warm welcome, is seeking a motivated, friendly and ambitious individual keen to kickstart their hospitality career in this front of house role.
The successful candidate would be required to make the most of this opportunity by developing fantastic ‘hospitality’ skills and knowledge such as recognising different customers’ needs, knowing how to match customers to the best products and working as part of a team which is committed to ensuring that visitors to this historic pub feel welcomed and looked after.
They would receive training to learn:
- Product knowledge (such as the range of wines, real ales, gins and whiskeys which the pub stocks)
- How to keep and pour real ale and manage a cellar
- How to be adaptable to different circumstances and customer needs
- How to cope well under pressure
- Gain knowledge about food and The George & Dragon’s menu so as to be able to share it with customers
- Handle money, record takings and understand the pub’s business operation at a basic level
- Be responsible for monitoring and ordering stock
- It should be noted that the successful candidate will be ‘buddied up’ with a more experienced member of staff who will be their mentor during their training.
There is also staff accommodation potentially available as part of the role.
The apprentice will be a valued member of The George & Dragon team who will receive their share of a staff tip pot, which is generously contributed to by customers.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
The candidate will follow a Level 2 Hospitality Team Member apprenticeship standard.
This training will be structured and delivered by Cheshire College - South and West.
If the candidate does not hold GCSE grades A-C (9-4) or equivalent, they will be required to complete a Level 1 Functional Skill in the relevant subjects.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
For the right candidate, there is great opportunity for a full-time position at the end of the apprenticeship, progressing to a management role.
The team at The George & Dragon are committed to first class training in a safe and supportive environment which will provide excellent hospitality grounding and fantastic CV-worthy experience.
