What will the apprentice be doing?
The successful candidate will have an aptitude for problem solving, have an interest in the print industry and a passion for continuous learning. This is an excellent opportunity to begin a career in a fast moving, ever developing industry, starting your role in the environment where the product itself is prepped, printed, hand tailored and delivered to prestigious high street customers.
As part of the Finishing Team, you will:
- Be responsible for the correct upkeep of the company die management system
- Work with your manager to rotate old dies from the racks and gather for collection any that have been highlighted for disposal by client services
The role will include:
- Training to cover employment rights and responsibilities, productivity measurement and how to improve it
- Developing an understanding of how to achieve and maintain quality, as well as understanding quality systems
- Learning to operate large format die platens (both hand-fed and semi-automatic) and large and small-format guillotines
- Operating a semi-automatic Lamina laminator and drill within the department
- The successful applicant will be expected to operate all equipment within the department after receiving training and having been signed off as competent to work unsupervised
- Fork-Lift-Counter-Balance and Reach truck licences would be beneficial but not a pre-requisite, as training can be given, if the position requires use of the vehicles
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, the qualification obtained will be a L3 Print Technician Apprenticeship Standard (post-press pathway).
The apprentice will be given sufficient time to undertake their "off-the-job" requirement of the apprenticeship during their working hours.
Throughout your time as an apprentice, you will be supported by both Simpson Print and the BPIF. You will be assigned a training coordinator to ensure that you have the best training available.
Training requirements will be discussed at the point of employment to suit your individual needs and business needs. Most training and studying will be a combination of site-based and remote delivery.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
There is the possibility of a full-time post upon completion of the apprenticeship for any candidate who has demonstrated their value to the business during the course of the apprenticeship.
