What will the apprentice be doing?
The successful candidate's role will be:
- Working as part of a team of engineers, identifying first-stage issues surrounding plant and equipment
- Identifying root causes and carrying out rectification work
- Thinking on your feet to remedy issues quickly to get plant optimisation
- Plant checks ensuring all equipment is within tolerances- amending and reporting where required
- Working on current and new projects offering opportunities for improvements/upgrades and plant reliability
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
- You will receive a training plan that is specific to your qualification, with sessions that are delivered through a combination of face-to-face and remote. – Engineering Technician: Mechatronics
- Additional training for functional skills in English and maths will be undertaken if needed
- Formal training is delivered at HWGTA, located in Worcester (WR4 9GN)
You will receive monthly visits from your assigned Learning and Development Specialist, who will set you work, monitor your development and wellbeing, and discuss training sessions.
They will also prepare you for your End Point Assessment to gain your Engineering Technician Level 3 qualification. There is also a five-day teambuilding residential trip that is held in the spring of each year.

- The Dangers of Compressed Air;

- Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome;
- Hand tools;
- Asbestos;
- Various engineering procedures, for example, Engineering Repairs - Making Procedure;
- Post Engineering Sign Back Procedure;
- QMS 4.7.4F Engineering Daily Sign-Off;
- QMS 4.7.5A Control of Materials;
- QMS 6.6A CWorks (CMMS).
