What will the apprentice be doing?

Vacancy Description:

  • Ensure that setting out requirements are met in a timely manner for the element of the works being undertaken – liaise with the Site Manager, don’t delay the project.
  • Check the contract programme for upcoming works and that all relevant detail is known and set out.
  • Ensure that the setting out arrangements are communicated to the gang undertaking the works (for example, how to ‘bone-in’ or track sheets for drainage, et cetera) and that the gang understand exactly what they are to construct (extracts of drawings, sketches provided to the gang with relevant dimensions/details).
  • Be sure that you understand the method of measurement for the project you are involved in and liaise with the Quantity Surveyor (QS) if unclear.
  • Ensure that all surveys are done when required before the surface to be surveyed is disturbed in line with measurement and as built requirements.
  • When a survey is done and downloaded for processing it is still the site engineer’s responsibility to ensure that the drawing or measure is produced and submitted.

Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Civil Engineering
