What will the apprentice be doing?

As an employer we will teach you how to complete the following tasks:

  • MOTs
  • Services
  • Exhausts
  • Fitting new batteries
  • Fitting new brakes
  • Diagnostics
  • Fixing air conditioning
  • Tyres
  • Clutches

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The successful apprentice will complete the Level 2 Autocare Technician Apprenticeship and receive either a grade Pass or Distinction. The employer welcomes applications from those that have already completed a Level 2 diploma at college, in which case we would be able to enrol you onto the Level 3 Motor Vehicle Service & Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship.

You will be required to come to East Sussex College’s, Eastbourne campus, once a week, term time only. In the holidays you will be expected to go to the employer, unless you have booked Annual Leave.

6 hours of your week will be spent on training. Training is anything you’re learning that is relevant to the apprenticeship. It will include day-release to college, meetings with your assessor, research, putting together your portfolio of evidence, being mentored, shadowing other members of staff, in-house training and much more. It will be your responsibility to log this training.

If you don’t have GCSEs in maths and English, at grade C/4 or above you will be required to complete Functional Skills in maths and English. Classes will run on the day of your day-release and you will have homework to complete. You will need to secure at least Level 1 Functional Skills and we will upskill you to Level 2.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

We would be hopeful the apprentice continuing with us after completion.

Things to consider

-The day-release class will start in September 2023. Day-release will be once a week, from East Sussex College’s, Eastbourne campus. This is a mandatory part of the apprenticeship. -The employer welcomes applications from those wishing to complete a Level 2 or Level 3 apprenticeship. - Those wishing to apply that are undertaking a qualification at school or college will be able to finish it first before starting the apprenticeship. - There will be 20 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays - There is a company pension scheme - There will be additional manufacturer's training on the completion of the apprenticeship.
