This role will be to assist the Site Services Coordinator to provide day to day operations of all site services equipment during allocated shift periods. For the right person, there is the opportunity to secure full time employment and progress to higher level qualifications. Assist the engineering and operations management teams to ensure safe plant, safe systems of work and a safe working environment is achieved and maintained in compliance to the higher of local, national, European or corporate standards.

What will the apprentice be doing?

Responsible for site services equipment including:

  • Site refrigeration plant
  • Thermal oil heating systems
  • Compressed air systems
  • Steam generating systems
  • Air handling systems
  • Water treatment
  • Legal compliance and record keeping for all services -  water/air/electricity Utilities Plant specific legislation Legionella (Boiler Operation, LV and HV distribution)
  • Pressure Systems
  • Emergency Lighting and Fire System, etc
  • To ensure there is clear and consistent communication and leadership of shift operations, including downtime monitoring and targeting, tasks and resource planning and scheduling, auditing and management of process check sheets, maintaining of food safe environment, housekeeping and safety standards leadership and auditing, management and control of contractors and suppliers, engineering permits and shift hand-over coordination
  • To ensure correct use of the Maximo CMMS across allocated shifts, including timely and accurate information input and use of diagnostic tools to review and optimise plant performance
  • Work with the engineering management team and Engineering Coordinator to develop and implement a sustainable maintenance best practice regime across the site to maximise plant reliability, efficiency and safety

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

This 4 year programme will include:

  • Engineering Basic Skills training – off the job full-time at Make UK in Aston, Birmingham
  • NVQ Level 3 in Engineering
  • A Technical Certificate (BTEC Diploma Level 3 in Engineering)
  • In-house training in line with your requirements

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

  • At the end of your apprenticeship, you may become a Service Engineer
