What will the apprentice be doing?
Working with a dedicated and experienced team of tree surgeons, you will be working in various locations on a variety of different tasks. Some of your day to day duties as you progress through your apprenticeship will include:
- Ensuring all health and safety is adhered to
- Checking and maintenance of machinery and equipment
- Safe use of chipper
- Tree pruning, shaping and removal
- Tree felling
- Tree climbing and related works
- Assisting with all relevant tree work as required
- Keeping a clean and tidy work area
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
- Weekly day release into Berkshire College of Agriculture Campus
- Level 2 Arborist Apprenticeship
- Level 2 Functional Skills in maths & English if required
The following licence to practice qualifications would be required prior to end point assessment:
- Level 3 award in Emergency First Aid at Work
- Level 2 award in Safe Use of Brushwood Chipper
- Traffic Management (NRSWA Unit 002 Signing, Lighting and Guarding) OR Sector Scheme 12D
- Level 2 award in Chainsaw Maintenance
- Level 2 award in Crosscutting Timber using a Chainsaw
- Level 2 award in Felling and Processing Trees up to 380mm
- Level 2 award in Accessing a Tree using a Rope and Harness
- Level 3 award in Aerial Tree Rescue Operations
- Level 3 award in Aerial Cutting of Trees using Free Fall Techniques
- Level 2 award in Safe Use of Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP)
- Level 3 award in Use of a Chainsaw from a Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP)
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
A full time permanent position will be reviewed upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.
