What will the apprentice be doing?

This apprenticeship will provide you with the opportunity to progress within different areas of the business. These could include but are not limited to Toolmaker, Conventional Machinist, CNC Machinist as well as some office based roles.

Role and responsibilities:

  • Learn how to interpret engineering drawings
  • Learn how to operate safely and effectively within a manufacturing environment
  • Learn how to operate metalworking machinery / equipment to produce new jigs, fixtures, form tools and general tooling to engineering drawings
  • Learn to maintain, repair and improve existing jigs, fixtures, form tools and general tooling
  • Learn the required hand and bench skills for jig / tool manufacture and maintenance

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

After a period of foundation skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)
  • Level 2 Diploma in Machining (Foundation Knowledge)

After a further period of skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) - Machining
  • Level 3 Diploma in Machining (Development Knowledge)

You will study on a Level 3 Engineering Technician standard on a Machinist - Advance Manufacturing Engineer pathway. On completion of this, you will gain a qualification in Engineering at Advanced Level 3 standard.

During the first year of the apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis. After this, you will attend the Training Centre for one day a week for knowledge study.

Completion of the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre apprenticeships are nationally recognised qualifications which are acknowledged and respected by employers across the world. These can open the door to many more opportunities, such as Engineering Management and Project Engineering positions across a range of sectors worldwide.
