What will the apprentice be doing?

The Apprentice’s Role:

This post is to support students in the area resource base (ARB) who need extra help in order to achieve their potential. This includes assisting students with their learning in classrooms in order to enable them to become fully confident independent learners. Students may have a range of difficulties from dyslexia to dyspraxia, autism to ADHD.

This role is a fantastic first step for a range of jobs within education. It is possible to progress onto a full time fully qualified TA position and / or to use the apprenticeship to gain valuable experience to support a route into teaching, supply work or as a cover supervisor. Completing a TA apprenticeship is also useful for any looking to work with young people in the wider remit of social care, youth work or the police.

Comprehensive training will be provided.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Over the course of your qualification, you will work towards achieving the Behaviours, Skills, and Knowledge of the course. Training will be provided with Skills Group where you will be allocated a highly skilled assessor and attend training sessions. You will have regular visits at the workplace from your designated assessor to observe your progress and competence as well as regular reviews to ensure that you are getting the most out of your apprenticeship.

Training will also be provided to enable you to achieve Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required).

You will be allocated an assessor who will work with you throughout your programme, offering you support throughout. Mentoring and guidance will be given to you to enable you to succeed with your apprenticeship.

You will have regular visits from your assessor, who will monitor your progress during your apprenticeship training and conduct observations within your workplace.

Whilst at the Skills Group and Liskeard School, you will learn the necessary skills and gain experience to help you throughout your role.

About the employer

Liskeard School and Community College (LSCC) is a co-educational 11-18 school of almost 1200 students including a vibrant and highly effective sixth form and incorporating an Area Resource Base supporting students with autism and/or complex learning difficulties. The school is an active member of SMART (South East Cornwall Multi Academy Regional Trust) Schools' Trust together with two further secondary schools at Saltash and Looe, three primary schools and two nurseries. Liskeard School and Community College currently has a Finance Apprentice and has previously employed ICT Apprentices. This is the first occasion Liskeard School has recruited a Teaching Assistant Apprentice but Looe Community Academy, which is also part of the South East Cornwall Multi Academy Regional Trust, currently has two.
