What will the apprentice be doing?

Under supervision, you will be working towards the following: 

  • To complete all academic aspects of the apprenticeship
  • To provide a safe, caring, stimulating educational environment, both indoors and outdoors at all times
  • To deliver an appropriate play-based Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum that enables children to make individual progress
  • To help ensure the pre-school nursery meets Ofsted requirements at all times
  • To understand and work to pre-school policies and procedures, including how to deal with child protection issues appropriately and how to respond to incidents, accidents, complaints and emergencies
  • To plan activities which ensure each child is working towards the early learning outcomes
  • To be a key person
  • To ensure records are properly maintained, e.g., daily attendance register, accident and incident book, risk assessments
  • To liaise closely with parents/carers, informing them about the nursery and its curriculum, exchanging information about children's progress and encouraging parents' involvement
  • To work in partnership with senior management plan
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed, in accordance with the pre-school aims and objectives

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Level 3 Early Years Educator Apprenticeship Standard:

  • Attend college 1 day per week which will be at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College -Filton Campus
  • Apprentices without Level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking their end point assessment
  • For those with an education, health and care plan or a legacy statement, the apprenticeships English and maths minimum requirements are Entry Level 3, and the British Sign Language qualification is an alternative to English qualifications for apprentices for whom this is their primary language
  • Apprentices must successfully complete a paediatric first aid qualification in line with the requirements of the EYFS Framework (Annex A): Early years foundation stage (EYFS) statutory framework - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
  • You will be required to complete Functional Skills mathematics and English (where applicable), Employment Rights and Responsibilities and British Values
  • Apprentices must successfully complete a Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification. Please refer to the DfE list of approved EYE qualifications: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/eyfs-staffchild-ratios-dfe-approved-qualifications

You will need to complete a course on Safeguarding and Food Hygiene. Before working at the setting, you will need to have a DBS.

About the employer

We are a Private Nursery, connected to St Michael’s Church in Stoke Gifford. We are based in a large, grade two listed building near Parkway Station. The maximum number of children we can have in the setting is 62. We are a charity and ‘not for profit’.
