What will the apprentice be doing?

Our Apprentices are the future of our business. On our apprenticeship programme, you will learn the skills to become a successful Formwork Engineer with a fantastic range of future career options ahead of you. With the current levels of advancement in technology, there could not be a more exciting time to join us and following successful completion of your apprenticeship you will be offered a permanent role, with one of the best rental equipment providers in the industry.

The Formwork Designer produces design solutions and material lists that represent the most efficient and safe use of equipment for the site team. They provide technical assistance to the customer from the preliminary stage of a project to its completion, in collaboration with sales and operations personnel. On a daily basis you’ll work within one of our operational centres where you will learn to:

  • Work with AutoCAD (& in future BIM/Revit software) to produce concept designs, approval general arrangement drawings and fully developed working drawings to include assembly and production drawings.
  • Provide material lists for quotations and shipments to the site.
  • Produce and ensure that the drawings indicate the proper use of formwork equipment and that the drawings represent safe, economical and efficient designs.
  • Develop solutions for a wide range of construction applications.
  • Produce calculations to verify the developed schemes, providing formal calculation reports when required.
  • Ensure that the work is designed with available inventory and in accordance with the design brief.
  • With experience and once qualified, assist with technical coordination/project management of projects, collaborating with colleagues from other departments. Also, supervising other designers, taking engineering lead for projects and interacting with customers.
  • As experience and skill develops, you will participate in job site visits, identify any improper implementation and recommend action to ensure corrective measures are immediately implemented.
  • Assist with department development initiatives and support the training of future employees once qualified.

We’ll provide you with a comprehensive company induction, role-specific training, and apprenticeship support. You will become a part of a larger apprentice cohort where you will be able to form lifelong relationships and engage in a wider support network.

We’ll also support your personal growth and development in line with your Sunbelt Rentals career aspirations. You will attend both in-house and manufacturer courses to expand your product knowledge and skills.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Level 3 Civil Engineering Technician Apprenticeship delivered on a day release basis at Sheffield College City Campus. You will work towards a Level 3 National Diploma in Civil Engineering qualification.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

We’ll also support your personal growth and development in line with your Sunbelt Rentals career aspirations.  You will attend both in-house and manufacturer courses to expand your product knowledge and skills.
