What will the apprentice be doing?
As an Apprentice Materials Testing Technician, you’ll be working in the organisations Quality & Product Technology department, as a valued part of The CEMEX National Technical Centre team.
You’ll be testing and developing the performance of construction materials such as Aggregates, Asphalt, Concrete, Mortars and Screed.
Your work within the team will help CEMEX continue to innovate and develop market leading special products and to optimise our existing product performance.
What you’ll be doing:
- Maintaining a safe working environment by following established laboratory procedures and active participation in H&S team activities
- Undertaking routine testing of construction materials to ensure CEMEX customers continue to receive high quality products
- Support the production of CEMEX special products by offering specialist on site support as part of a highly skilled and dynamic technical team
- Participate in R&D activities to ensure CEMEX continue to provide customers with innovative construction solutions
- Reporting of results to the Laboratory Manager for final report production and issue promptly
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
At Tiro we’re obsessed with changing lives through science and technology apprenticeships so we can’t wait to have you on board.
Over 21 months, you’ll devote a minimum of 6 hours of your working week on ‘off the job’ training. This can include theory training (for example, virtual lessons and online learning), alongside practical training (for example shadowing, mentoring, and time spent writing assignments. Together this will count towards a Level 3 Laboratory Technician apprenticeship. You’ll be trained by an expert tutor from Tiro as well as an experienced mentor at CEMEX who together, will make sure you develop the knowledge, skills, and work habits you’ll need to succeed in your career.
Being an apprentice is hands-on, so you’ll get the chance to learn things you might otherwise not have experienced in a university or college environment.
The best part? You’ll be earning a salary while you gain your qualifications, meaning no huge student loans to pay back at the end of the programme!
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
There’s no limit to what you can achieve if you work for CEMEX, and the goal is to develop you, so you are a competent Materials Technician capable and willing to join the team at The CEMEX National Technical Centre in a full time, permanent position.
