What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Breaking down beef, pork, lamb into sellable cuts.  Making pies / sausage rolls etc
  • Ongoing development of kitchen ready meals
  • Serving customers
  • Answering phone, taking orders

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Butcher Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard:

  • Level 2 Award in Food Safety
  • Level 2 Award in Health and Safety
  • Level 2 Award in Knife Skills
  • Level 1 and/or 2 in Functional Skills in maths and/or English depending on GCSE grades

About the employer

Mayo Brothers is situated in Chesham Bois (between Amersham and Chesham). Rob and Jenni have owned the business since 2008 but Rob has worked there since he was 14 as a young apprentice. There are 2 other members of staff.
