What will the apprentice be doing?
- Initially you will spend time learning the basic commands within AutoCAD along with some product knowledge relating to the products you will be detailing (drawing).
- When you are confident in AutoCAD, you will be shown how to use our design / detailing (drawing) package within AutoCAD to draw the product before moving on to basic layouts.
- You will also be shown how the design office process works from receipt of an order through to delivery to site.
- Once confident with AutoCAD, the design package and process, you will start to take on live jobs under the guidance of a mentor.
- You will also attend a day release course to broaden your knowledge and skillset.
- As you become more experienced in the role, you will be responsible for detailing (drawing) and managing multiple projects from approval layouts to releasing schedules (a list of products) for manufacture. Whilst still being supported, you will have less reliance on your mentor.
- You will also be introduced to other areas of the department with involvement in the pricing and quotation of products and determining what to work on along with deciding when and what to cast.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
- Construction Support Technician Level 3.
- One day at DCG and the rest of the week at the work place.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
There are excellent opportunities for progression within the company, with a strong focus on continued learning and personal development. You could stay within the design team working in 3-D utilising Tekla software or move to departments such as Estimating, Planning, Surveying or within the external Commercial and Contracts teams.
