What will the apprentice be doing?

  • Interpret drawings and specifications.
  • Measure the work area and set out level first courses of bricks to a plan, including bonds for openings and the damp course.
  • Mix mortar by hand or with a mechanical mixer.
  • Lay bricks to set dimensions and apply mortar with a trowel to completion. 
  • Repair and renew masonry structures.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The Apprentice will be enrolled onto a Level 2 Bricklayer Apprenticeship and Greenlight Training Ltd will be the Apprenticeship training provider.

The Apprentice will need to attend the Greenlight Training centre in Plymouth for 3 consecutive days per month.

Functional skills are also available for anyone that has not achieved their Maths and English grades. 

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

We would like to work with all of our apprentices after they have completed and passed their Apprenticeship. We would look to take the Apprentice on as a sub-contractor.

When fully qualified, progression routes such as a site supervisor would be an option, possibly leading onto site management.

Another option would be to progress onto a Level 3 bricklaying apprenticeship.
