What will the apprentice be doing?

As an apprentice you will be part of the team working to complete orders for customers assisting with activities that will include:

  • Milling
  • Turning
  • Drilling
  • Surface grinding
  • EDM Spark erosion
  • Jig Making
  • Mould tool maintenance

This will include all aspects of the manufacture of mould tooling produced in our in-house tool room.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Apprentices will undertake a Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard Program, this will include a 20 week full-time period of practical workshop based ‘off-the-job’ training at SETA in the first year.

After this 20 week training period you will be at BEC Group for four days a week, working with the teams and learning the practical skills. You will also be attending SETA one day a week to achieve technical certificate in BTEC Level 3.

Your apprenticeship is finished off with an End Point Assessment (EPA)

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

During and after your apprenticeship you will progress onto Mould Tool Design, CAD/CAM and other areas in the business where the toolmaker is needed.
