What will the apprentice be doing?

The apprenticeship will cover:

  • Testing of high voltage power supplies to specification requirements.
  • Completion of test reports and documentation in accordance with customer requirements and in line with the Quality Management System standards.
  • Upgrading and modification of assemblies and finished product.
  • Interpretation and implementation of changes to assemblies and finished product in accordance with documentation.
  • Identifying product quality and performance issues and raising appropriate non-conformances.
  • Liaising with Design Engineering, Test Equipment Design and Sales in support of meeting customer requirements and finished product quality and performance.
  • Responsibility for adhering to the Company’s ISO 9001 Quality, ISO14001 Environmental and Health and Safety management systems.
  • Test product by following test procedures accurately and meeting standard times.
  • Use test equipment such as oscilloscopes, function generators, digital power supplies and multi meters.
  • Understanding high voltage test methods.
  • Soldering and rework methods to IPC standards.
  • Working in a lean manufacturing facility.
  • Use of MS Office.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Diligent application to study the AME route on day release and within company time to achieve a successful outcome with qualification.
  • Diligent application of learning in the workplace to demonstrate the learning and knowledge gained.
  • Attending regular monitoring review meetings with appointed training officer.
  • Gathering a portfolio of on the job learning and work evidence to meet the needs of the apprenticeship programme and End-point Assessment.
  • Satisfactorily completing assignments and consolidating the training and work undertaken in the time frame agreed.
  • Manufacture (Assembly & Test) of production units.
  • Applying a conscientious attitude in the workplace, contributing to the departmental goals and objectives.
  • Ensure familiarisation and adherence to the Quality, Environmental and Health and Safety management systems including workmanship standards, static handling precautions and high voltage control measures.
  • Keep informed and support EMS and improvement team activities and IS09001 - Quality and ISO 14001- Environmental requirements including lean initiatives.
  • Work with other team members to continuously improve quality and processes.
  • Responsibility for adhering to the Company’s ISO 9001 Quality, ISO14001 Environmental and Health and Safety management systems.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

After a period of foundation skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)


After a further period of skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:

  • Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge)


The final apprenticeship completion certificate will be issued on achievement of the above qualification and successful completion of end point assessment.

This will include on-site training at Spellman.
